Last night was fairly quiet, after a beer at the backpackers headed home for a Skype session with Tarsha. I had a good last night sleep in Akureyri and started today off with a Skype session with Mum. Its great to see both of them and have a catch up on what's been going on at home. I left a bit later this morning as i had to pack up all of my mess and stuff that I managed to spread everywhere over the last 4 days! Today I headed over to Saudarkrokur, only a hour and a half from Akureyri but had a few stops along the way, ending up in a 4ish hour drive! My first detour was to Hofsos, the entire reason of this was to swim in the pool there. No words can describe it so your just going to have to enjoy the view from the photos :) It was spectacular!!
Unfortunately i was only able to swim for a hour or so, and they close for the afternoon and re-open at night time, which i can image would be even more extrordinary! So i jumped back in my car and headed on my way, the wind was getting quite bad today, so decided to head to my accommodation early and head out exploring from there! On my way I came across some more turf houses and couldn't help but stop and take more photos of these amazing houses!
Upon arriving in Saudarkrokur, i had a few hours up my sleeve before it was time to head to my hostel. I decided to drive about 20mins out of town to a couple of natural "hot tubs" called Grettislaug, they were pretty much right on the coast. These were pretty cool as they were still fairly basic and didn't have any of that "swimming pool" or "clinic" feel to it. Being Iceland i didn't think twice about bringing a towel so missed out on being able to swim, but felt the water and it was as warm and beautiful as any other pools i had been in, I can imagine a long soak in these would be beautiful!!
As the weather started to turn, i headed back to town, stopping on the way to pat some horses and also take a photo of a couple of small islands off the coast. One of them I recognised from a Facebook meme as its on a hill and only has one house (I think) on the whole island. I tried to get a decent photo but in the end it got too Snowy/Rainy to get one!
I am just about to head out to dinner at a local restaurant called the hard wok cafe. I was planning on heading to a bar afterwards but in the small towns they are only open Thursday-Sunday! It will be and early night for me as iv got a very big day of driving tomorrow, Fingers crossed the weather stays amazing for me :)
