Today being my first full day in Akureyri I started of with a bit of a slow morning! I try use them to catch up and chat with family and friends, and let the weather improve (Its normally windy when I wake up). Jo came to pick me up at about 11 and we headed to the liquor store to stock up for that evening, as there is only one liquor store in town and it hadn't been open the day before it was quite busy. I selected an Icelandic beer to sample called Thule. From here we headed back out to Lake Mytavn, via an amazing water fall called Godifoss, a lot of the snow has melted over the last couple of days as the temperature is getting higher and the wind is melting it so the waterfall was absoloutely amazing!
From here we headed to Dimmuborgir, i had visited here the previous day but Jo told me there was a Lava formation there known as "church". I'm glad we took the short walk out there as it was amazing to see the cave like formation!
On the way back to Akureyri we stopped off at a small village where Jo's parents in law lived, her partner and his son were staying there for the easter weekend and wanted to go for a swim in the local pool. There is a very big difference between the pools at home and the "natural" pools, before you go into any pool over here you must first have a naked shower and wash any germs or dirt off yourself, this is to keep the pools clean, or at least cleaner than what we are used to at home! we sat enjoying the extra warm water for a hour or so and then headed back in Akureyri. Now it was time for dinner, drinks and to get ready for the nights festivities! Jo invited a few of her friends around for drinks, and we played Icelandic Card Drinking games. This was hilarious and very interesting, i think they loved listening to me attempt to read these cards. Over in Iceland the locals don't tend to go out until about 1-1:30am, dance until 3 and then head home, it is way to expensive to drink whilst you are out over here! All in all i had a very fun night dancing and singing along (to some of the music, if it wasn't in Icelandic) and will be happy to have a quieter day today just relaxing!
